It’s all about Health & Safety
Health and Safety should be at the forefront of everyone’s minds when using conveyor and other equipment across industrial and commercial sites and with strict legislation in place to avoid health and safety negligence, the safety of conveyor equipment throughout manufacture, deployment on site and when in use is critical.
Since 1998, users of conveyors have been legally obliged to perform PUWER assessments (Provision and User of Work Equipment Regulations) and when using mobile equipment, a number of regulations specific to the use of conveyors, apply including the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008.
All employers have an obligation under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. to “ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work of all his employees” and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 specifically ask that “Every employer shall make a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks to the health and safety of his employees to which they are exposed whilst they are at work.”
From manual handling to asbestos removal and movement, noise, working at heights, lifting, PPE protection, lone workers and fire safety, health and safety has to be understood and actioned properly to ensure everyone’s safety.
The team at Coveya always put health and safety at the heart of everything we do; from staff training to the production of guides and manuals that are designed to offer important check lists for the maintenance and use of our products on site, we all strive to mitigate health and safety risks working alongside our customers to ensure we also adhere to site health and safety protocols.
There are three main instances when conveyor health and safety might be compromised:
- Cleaning and maintaining a conveyor (especially if it’s still in operation)
- Reaching to remove debris with the conveyor is already being used
- Cleaning materials or clothing being caught within the conveyor system
From daily conveyor safety checks, inspection and cleaning before its operated, to start-up and shut down procedures, loading, maintenance and weekly service checks, we supply a number of checklists for each of our customers to reduce risk and injury so that each conveyor simply delivers what it’s designed to do.
