Bulk Loading Loose Materials into Containers – Things to Consider

Bulk Loading Loose Materials into Containers – Things to Consider

With the value of waste materials ever increasing it is becoming more and more popular for organisations to export these materials overseas to be used for all kinds of purposes.

For example materials such as sub coal pellets can be loaded into containers and shipped to provide renewable energy at Energy Recovery Facilities.

Coveya are frequently involved in a small part of this process by providing the Conveyors for handling and loading RDF materials into both 20ft and 40ft containers. With container loading time being restricted due to demurrage charges it is of upmost importance that containers can be loaded with these difficult materials quickly and safely.

The Process

A Conveyor must extend unsupported into the far end of the container to load it at height as well as being able to slew from side to side at the same time to evenly fill the container, maximising the space. Often sensors are fitted to the Conveyor to prevent it from colliding with the container walls.

It is important that the Conveyor is telescopic and can freely move from the container door to the far end in order to fully fill the space. This also removed the need for the truck to drive forward as the container is loaded which results in a safer process.

Lastly in order to load a 40f container within 1 hour the Conveyor system must be consistently loaded by a large machine such a wheeled loader. A Standard Telescopic Conveyor will not receive material from a machine such as this so a Bulk Feed Hopper is required to act as a loading point for the material.

The advantage of a Bulk Feed Hopper is that it will provide a steady and constant stream of material, loading it onto the conveyor in a controlled fashion and this is absolutely key in ensuring that a container can be loaded within a suitable time frame.

Vehicle Loading and Unloading Conveyors

Coveya provide these systems for both Rental & Purchase and hold equipment in stock ready for mobilisation.

The advantage of renting equipment is that it allows you to trial and tweak the setup for your preference before you decide to invest in the equipment.
